More Crazy Weather

I woke up last night at about 4:45 AM (I guess I could say this morning. I heard lots of thumps on the roof, and looked out side to see what it was. Much to my surprise there were quarter-sized balls of hail falling from the sky. It was pretty light to begin with, so I decided I was going to move our car in to a covered parking spot hoping to prevent damage. As soon as I got dressed and found my shoes, the hail was coming down in buckets, and I decided not to go out for fear of my life. It lasted for about 10 minutes, and then it turned to pouring rain, which once again flooded a good portion of our "yard" within 5 minutes. Once the hail stopped, I decided to see if there was any damage to the car, which there wasn't thankfully. The weather here is crazy, which makes life a bit more interesting. The lighting last night was going crazy as well. There were lightning strikes literally every couple of seconds. I've never seen such sustained lighting.

In other news, NASA announced that my rocket team won the USLI competition that I was in Alabama for. That means that I get an invitation to the next shuttle launch, which will probably be in October. My first week of work was a bit boring, I just had to go through a lot of orientation and company policies and getting to know people and places, but I think I am really going to enjoy working there. My boss seems pretty cool. Talk to you all later.

Dear Mike (I assume this entry was written by Mike, although your signing everything as 'Mike and Sarah' really throws me in determining which of you writes what.)

Anyway, Mike, congratulations on your Aggie Engineers rocket project winning the NASA competition!! That's a big feather in your already full cap. There was a nice article in the Ogden Standard Examiner yesterday (May 30th) about it. I will surf it up and send to you in an E-mail. (Of course, woe be to those who send you E-mails, since they seem to sink into the murky abyss.

Well, well, it seems you are getting a little wake-up call on Kansas weather. (Remember the Wizard of OZ.) You're VERY lucky your car wasn't dented by that hail. My daughter Gail who lives in Texas regularly sustains severe hail damage to her car, motor home, and home. But that's what keeps the insurance companies in business.

I'm glad you and Sarah like living in Kansas. Over my life, I have been in Kansas many times and never had the yearning to live there - how prejudiced can a person be?

My car is now on its last legs due to a failing head gasket (Ask Danny what that is because I doubt airplanes have to deal with that major repair - even if you knew what it is.) Perhaps I may see some badly dented automobiles just in from the Kansas Hail.

I saved the newspaper article covering your graduation, but did not see you again after that. So if you want it, let me know; and I shall mail to you, (assuming someone knows your address.)

To both Mike and Sarah: I use my maiden name on blogs to protect the guilty. (Mike, you may recognize my maident name as being the same as Owen's middle name.)

YAY MIKE! We saw an article about the win on th USU page and we were super excited. Congrats. Also, we're glad that your limbs and so forth are still intact after the hail storm. And another also, we saw a Transformers board game at the store the other day, in case you don't already have it. Sorry Sarah, if you do. We love you guys!
